Maidstone Distillery's gin wins Kent spirit award

George Bishop London Dry Gin from Maidstone Distillery scooped the Spirit of the Year accolade at the Taste of Kent Awards last night.

The awards, which are organised by Produced in Kent, celebrate local food and drink across Kent. The virtual ceremony took place on Tuesday night.

George Bishop London Dry Gin was shortlisted in March by public votes, alongside Anno Distillers' Anno Kent Dry Gin and Copper Rivet Distillery's Dockyard Gin, and a panel of judges selected the winner.

"Words can’t describe how much this means to me, my wife Sam and the rest of the team," said Darren Graves, founder and head distiller. "To have received such great support from members of the public to be voted into the finals was humbling, and to go ahead and win the award is just fantastic."

George Bishop London Dry Gin is the flagship spirit from Maidstone Distillery, which opened its doors in July last year.

The Kent Spirit of the Year award was sponsored by NFU Mutual - Ashford, Tenterden and Whitfield. Anno's Kent Dry Gin and Copper Rivet's Dockyard Gin were both highly commended in this category.

Cellar Head Brewing Co's Session Pale Ale won Kent Beer of the Year, while DISCO by Dudda's Tun Cider scooped Kent Cider of the Year.

Herbert Hall Brut Sparkling Wine by Herbert Hall Winery won the Kent Wine of the Year award, while the Kent Non-Alcoholic Drink of the Year went to Maypole Blend Coffee by Garage Coffee.
